Dr. Gil Alterovitz is the inaugural Director of Artificial Intelligence at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Based in the Office of Research and Development, Dr. Gil Alterovitz is working on leveraging health data for AI as well as building AI research and development capacity. He was one of the core authors of White House Office of Science Technology and Policy’s The National AI R&D Strategic Plan (2019 version). He is also a professor at Harvard Medical School and core faculty at the Computational Health Informatics Program, Boston Children’s Hospital.
In addition to over 50 publications and 3 books, he has led international projects and has mentored scholars and students from all over the world. Earlier this year, he was selected for the Fed100 Award for “Getting government ready for AI” for his work as a White House Presidential Innovation Fellow.
He has spearheaded the “AI-able Data Ecosystem” Pilot, creating a new approach for public-private collaborations with personnel/resources across a dozen agencies and working with companies internationally. The results were presented at and are feeding into national initiatives at, among others, the White House and federal agency Chief Information Officers Council.

Jeffrey Hausfeld, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.S., has served on the national board and committees of specialty medical societies since he began his practice in Otolaryngology/Facial Plastic Surgery in 1982. He is an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at George Washington University School of Health Sciences and an alumnus of the Yale University School of Medicine.
Dr. Hausfeld is widely published in the medical literature, is the pioneer of innovative laser surgery techniques, is the author of a lay oriented medical book on snoring and sleep apnea, and has appeared on numerous local and national television and radio shows as a medical expert. He has also served as a health care consultant, spokesperson, and executive coach for multi-national pharmaceutical companies, health care firms, as well as the U.S. military. Dr. Hausfeld stepped down from his clinical duties after receiving a Masters in Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Hausfeld is presently developing assisted living facilities specializing in Alzheimer's and dementia care. He serves as a consultant to several healthcare/life science startups in diagnostics, devices, biotech and Health IT. He also serves on the Investment Advisory Board of the Center for Innovation Technology's Life Science Gap Fund. The fund supports promising healthcare and life sciences ventures in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Prior to her Fellowship, Sarayu was the Founder & CEO of KAARGO, a mission driven consumer transport and logistics marketplace backed by the CEO/Chairmen of Intel and Loews. She is a Visiting Scholar at the University of Edinburgh, a visiting EIR at Arizona State University, and a guest lecturer at universities worldwide including Copenhagen Business School, Hult Business School, Columbia University, MIT, École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, Mines, Harvard and NYU.
Sarayu earned a BA in Architecture from Barnard College/Columbia University (Mount Holyoke Alumnae Scholar and National Zoological Park Architectural Design Fellow), a Certificate in Medieval European Studies from Cambridge University, an MBA from École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, and held a research fellowship at the Harvard Business School pre-PhD.
